Bad FPR? Car dies after starting

I have a 95 max with a 2000 motor. 290k miles on everything except motor, tranny, starter, alternator. Motor swap has been running well for about 70k miles. I didnt used to have starting problems. Im using the 5th gen throttle body and I have the IACV adapter plate.

When I start my car in the morning, it doesnt stay running, it shuts right off.
The only way to keep it running is by giving some gas consistently for like 30 seconds or more. If I start it then don't give it gas and it dies, the next time I try to start it, it struggles to turn over until I give it some gas.

If my fuel pressure regulator was bad, how would I know?

Any other ideas?

Thanks,
Matt

Sounds like you have classic IACV issues. They do go bad eventually because of all the gunky intake stuff getting into its innards. You can take it apart and clean it.

When your FPR goes bad its not very obvious.....throttle response gets weird, like the car doesn't respond then it DOES.

When My FPR went bad I could especially notice it on the highway, light throttle movements were ok, but if i floored it suddenly, sometime it would surge, even backfire.

If you need to give it gas when it gets colder, its possibly the FPR. When it is warm out, do you need to give it gas to keep running?

It's been a while since it was cold. But no I don't think so. Or it wasn't nearly as bad.

I'm going to take the iacv off today and see what it looks like.

I never finished hooking up the 00vi, that wouldn't be a cause for this would it?

Does the 5th gen TB have the same cold idle plunger and linkage as the 4th gen does? If so, I'd look at that first. Make sure the plunger is moving and opening the TB when the engine is cold.

I'm not sure, ill look and compare. I ended up having to work on my sisters car this weekend so didn't get a chance to look at mine.

And now it's raining here so ill have to wait for the rain to go away before I can work on my car.

Apparently some do and some don't. Not sure what Nissan did to distingush that decision....
