Another trunk lid opening thread.

New to these forums.

The trunk lid on my wife's 99 Maxima used to open fully when the remote was used. (Added: I know many Maxima trunks just open a little, but hers opened fully and she really liked that. Note - it doesn't have a spoiler to weigh it down.) Now it just pops open but doesn't rise.

I tried lubing the areas where the torsion bars are anchored but that didn't help. Then I found a thumb-sized piece of black plastic that looks like it joins the two bars. At the top was a tab that was broken. It may have been an anchor in the trunk lid but I couldn't tell.

Does this piece have anything to do with whether the lid opens fully, and if so, where does it anchor?

If this is unrelated, is there another way of getting the lid to fully rise?

Thanks.

Tell you wife she needs a younger model, then she'll get a rise!

My 97 has always just popped open, never lifting up.

The plastic piece you are wondering about is to prevent the torsion bars from hitting each other and making noise.

Mine used to open until I got hit. Now I have to hit it a few times to make sure it doesnt pop and re-close on its own
