Replaced coolant temperature sensor. Now running "hot"

Hey org. I just replaced my coolant temperature sensor that feeds to my gauge because it would have a sporadic panic attack every now and again. Now that I have the new one in, it shows that 'normal' operating temperature is 3/4's up the gauge (when it should normally be at half). Does this just sound like a possible fluke in the sensor itself? I'm getting a new one sent to me so hopefully it's just that one part. I'm pretty confident that it is the sensor because my fans aren't spinning faster than what would be normal. I also touched the hot coolant hose and it wasn't hot enough to burn me.

Let me know what you guys are thinkin. Thanks!

OEM part needed.
I had an aftermarket that told me I was too hot also; and it wasn't even warm enough for the heater to work.
Factory part worked first time.

My sensor was having the same panic stack, jumping around under hard acceleration and shifting. I soldered the terminal to the staked post it was loose on.

to the OP - the same "OEM or bust" concept applies to the thermostat as well...so if you ever need to replace that, go OEM or go home

You should replace the other coolant temp sensor as well, the ECT. It is the more important one because that one tells the computer how hot the car is so that the computer can then kick-in the fans.

I think we need a thread for sensors that are "OEM or bust" until they are discontinued.
