Found a '97 with 291k. Friend of a friend is a mechanic. He totalled his car and got this one for $300. He just put in junkyard alternator and said he will sell it for $575. Has a little rust under passenger rear door. I could use a second car to not rush me when my 5th gen breaks or anything. Jump on this deal or pass?

Brand new starter isn't $275. I'd talk him down. Gotta save every penny

 

Alternator, not starter. Any way, he's probably charging for his labor to put it in, plus make a buck.

O ya he is definately just trying to make a buck but if it is worth the money I could use it. I will post pics when I get around to seeing the car.

Who am I kidding? $575 for a car is pretty good. I spent $1200 on mine.
