I'm a poor college kid, and I'm right on the fence of buying an 00vi,
I know how much of a difference it makes in 1/4 mile times, but that means
little to nothing to me because I have never been to a track nor have I ran a 1/4 mile time.
I'm just trying to decide whether it's really worth the money.
I can get the manifold for 115 (there are no junkyards with Maximas around me, if you live in SE Wisconsin and know of any, let me know). So the main question is, does anybody have any guess of how much of a difference an 00vi swap would make to a 0-60 time?
I have a 96 SE 5sp with CAI, warpspeed Y, and cat delete. I'm not exactly sure what 0-60 I'm running right now but it's somewhere in the neighborhood of 6.2-6.3 seconds.
I'm not asking for an exact number, but any estimates? Would you recommend it?

cool to see a local here, im in milwaukee and i know your pain. thus why i havent undertaken the task. however i plan on a 3.5 swap because for the ones you can find around here, are 4-450 bucks...total rip off, half the price of a vq35. id say save the cash man. or invest in a vq35 swap. lmk i can help with the swap, got mad tools.

Man there's at least 6-8 2000-01 Maxima(s) and each of the 3 junkyards I go to...I would love to do the swap as well but there seems too be quite alot to it.....

I know, it's so weird! Everybody else has no problem finding maximas and parts at scrap/junkyards, but I have never seen one in a junkyard that i've been to.
You do have a good point with the 3.5 though..man that'd be nice. =)

Don't bother with the swap. You are a poor college student. Save your money.

The 00VI only really benefits top end on the highway. 1/4 mile times is not night and day...only like 0.1 second.

If 1/4 mile is your main concern, then maybe the 00VI is not for you.
I have an 00VI to be installed eventually and my main concern is just to make my car keep running hard in 3rd 4th and 5th gear....lose that slighly asthmatic feeling in the top end.

Good call. I'm happy with the way my car pulls, especially with it just rolling over the 224k mile mark. I suppose if the engine ever dies on me I will just swap in a DE-K.

A 3.5 Swap + 3.0 timing is the cheapest thing to do.

00VI is just the laziest thing to do.

I wish I knew this a long time ago, I would have saved myself a lot of trouble.

Geeze, I went to my local 'U wrench it', and I was only motivated to go for some OEM 4th gen struts. These local places have never had anything above the year 1999, so you can imagine my surprise when I found a 00 maxima with all the 00vi stuff still on it! And you can bet that I stripped that bish and took me home a brand new (to me) 00vi and all the stuff that's needed minus the vafc. If this last attempt at the 3.5 don't work, you can also bet that the 3.0 is goin back in, with a little bit of 00vi modification. (I just keep getting the dreaded white smoke/coolant out the exhaust, on the 3.5.)
