MIL Light "bulb" is out???
What's up guys,
So I needed to take my car to emissions and have it tested... Passed everything, but the check engine light wouldn't turn on once the car was started. So they said law requires to have a proper MIL light even if no codes were recorded on the ODB.
I searched the 4th gen forum to no avail. How can I solve this issue:
1) Get behind the cluster and change the bulb? Is it even a bulb or is it a LED? What watt bulb? I don't want to be soldering or anything... If anyone can help me with this I would greatly appreciate it.
2) Is it from some other cause? I heard some people on the 5th gen forum saying something like "if the ciggerate lighter doesnt work, that MIL light is out since they share the same circuit? Not sure if this is true or not but can it be something like that?
I appreciate your time to any solutions you can share with me.
Thanks in advance.

1) Yes, it is a regular bulb. There are other bulbs the same size back there as well, so you can put one of those in instead to see if it lights up. I believe the bulb size is a 194. If it lights up, the bulb that was in there is blown. If it doesn't, that is not the problem.
2) I've never heard of it, but then again, I've never had this problem. If 1 doesn't work, look for the fuse that the cig lighter is on and check it.
Good luck with solving this.

My cigarette light bulb doesn't work but MIL light works...So I don't think that's true..I truthfully didn't even know the cigarette lighter had a light...I figured that was what the wire was for

It doesn't have one. If the cigarette lighter doesn't heat up, or if it won't power any 12V accessories that have the plug meant to go in the cigarette lighter, then the MIL light won't work. That's what was meant. But I agree with you. I don't see why the two would be related, but it is Nissan we are talking about. The corner lights up front is on the same circuit as the left brake/tail light.

Haha. Yeah. I didn't know about it until i blew the fuse when I put aluminum foil in the socket so both filaments on the corner lights would come on when I turned my corner lights on. Since Nissan decided to use special 1157 sockets and got rid of the light turning on when the turn signal was turned on, and it makes a big difference when turning, I wanted the extra lighting instead of that other filament going to waste. It makes a huge difference while driving as well.

Thanks bud!! I guess it showed up as a T3.25 miniature automotive light bulb which is a 161. Hope its the correct one, if not, might just have to pull one of the other bulbs. I didn't think about that, so thanks for letting me know!!

Check Engine (aka MIL) light comes on when Key is turned to ON as a "bulb check" - it goes off after a few seconds or when engine is started - I forget which. It's a standard size bulb in a little plastic bulb holder - easily available at any auto parts store. Good luck.

So I got it fixed, it is not a 161 bulb as many websites said it fit my car. Had to pull the windshield wiper fluid bulb and put it in. Lo and behold light works!! But with a P0505 and P0325.
If I erase codes and do emissions, will it come on asap after I erase or will it take time to set in allowing me enough time to go and maybe pass? I will get it fixed obviously but need my car emissions done asap.
