Hey guys,

i was looking to replace the speakers in my car and i was wondering if you guys have any suggestions on what i should buy.

Im looking for both rear and front speakers (maybe the tweeters as well), a subwoofer and amplifier.

I have set a limit of 300 dollars for this project.

I also already have a stereo so thats taken care of.

And $300 is a very low budget for a good sound IMO.

I usually recommend that you use your total speaker budget for a solid component set up front, & just run your rears till you have money for a decent set of coaxial speakers. Doing it right the first time will alleviate switching out to better sets of speakers & save you money in the long run.

Try to listen to as many speakers within your budget as you can. Your money, your ears....remember that....in case the sales people get a little pushy.

$300 is a tight budget but doable if you are willing to cut a few corners, or buy used. my first suggestion , is to decide how big your looking to go. you CAN accomplish good sound for this price, if your installing yourself of course. since you have such a tight budget, i would focus on "small but goodl" for now. meaing buying pretty decent quality stuff, just not as much. enough to get by - and have something you can add to later if you want bigger sound


you have a head unit you said - so ill assume your good there. i would search your local craigslist, and look what people have . who knows you might score an entire setup for your budget. if not i would search for box with a single 12" sub, and the best quality 4 channel amp you can find. reason i suggest this is you can bridge 2 channels to power your sub, and run the two fronts off the other 2 channels. id also suggest forgeting about rear speakers for now, as you can use whatever is back there for rear fill, since your fronts are what is more important. run the rear off power of the head unit, and find THE BEST set of front speakers you can afford with your budget. i highly recomend alpine's (ill find the model number later) .


IMO - order of importance in terms of qualily is front speakers, then amp, then sub. a subwoofer just moves air, and for your purpose just about any will do. ive had every size woofer and i think 12's r the best. ive had 2 12's , 4 12's , 2 10's , 3 10's , 8 10's and 2 15's. if you can find a used box with 2 -12's in your budget then get it, but more import is a good 4 channel amp with a decent single 12.. meaning - if you had $100 to spend on the sub - i would take a single JL 12 or Kicker over a 2 12'' pyramids any day. with $300, i would start with dedicating $100 for each part - sub,amp, fronts.. and anything you save can go back in the pool..


you can always add rear speakers if you feel you need them , and then use the 4 channel for them, and then pick up another 2 channel for your subs.


i just put a good cheap set up together in my cr-v.. you can accomplish something very close to what i have im my honda, that sounds great, if you shop smart.

here - you can get Alpine sps610 or sps610c (the component model) NEW for $70-$90 online. this is a very good set for the money - and i think you can even find the sps610 cheaper than $70..


my memory is a little off, so im not 100% sure what size the maxima speakers are, but if i had to guess i would say 6.5". those alpines are a great start, and IMO the best bang for the buck.

If you can not hear your rear speakers you know nothing about staging and time alignment.OP just go with what sounds good to you.

A good set of components in the front will make a big difference. I have components in the rear as well but I wouldnt say you need them.

In y experience, any nae brand speakers would fit your needs. When you try saving money with off brand nae then you really have to know what you're doing.

$300 is a very low budget unless you go with used equipment which in that case is doable and can get you a mid-grade system.

was in a big car audio store earlier - was alot more choices for $100 box than i would have thought.. maybe moving old stock.. they even had a single JL 12 in a ported box for $99, and JL 6.5" set for like $89.. pretty good deal if you ask me.. actually went back in a second time cause my car got stuck in gear... any chance your in ny or nj i can give you a couple suggestions
