1999 ecu

My neighbor has a 99 maxima manual and his mechanic said he needed a new ecu. I looked online and cannot find the matching part numbers. Anyone with any leads or information to help? The part number is A18-N07 Z87 8Y06. Thank you

ECU's v-e-r-y rarely go bad. What's the problem he's having with the car? Might be time for a new mechanic, rather then the ECU...

He was informed the coils are getting power but no power to the plugs. What do you think? Thanks for your help!

The coils have a 5 volt reference and the signal to fire them is ground.

Find another mechanic.

Chances are a crank sensor is defective. I'd start with CPS POS which is on the transmission bell housing and looks at the flywheel. The other crank sensor is CPS REF and looks at the timing ring on the crank pully.

you probably checked it but make sure the security light goes off and is not a steady red light. If it is a steady red, you need the keys reprogrammed.

I just 'kinda' swapped a 95 manual ecm into my max, long story short, it didnt play nicely with the 99 IACV, so back in went the 99 ecm...funny you mention this because I literally did that swap just tonight! But now my security light is on always steady even with driving. My car started up just fine, why do I 'need' to get the keys reprogrammed for?

I have an update. Both crank sensors have been replaced. Now we notice the security light is solid red when key not in ignition. When the ignition is turned on the red light blinks. Does that sound right? Thanks

Yes. Does the car start now?

FYI, if the NATS security system is preventing the car from starting, you will have spark at the plugs. NATS cuts off the fuel injectors.

Look at spark plugs, coil packs and wires first. If they are fine then pull out your ECU and open it up. If you see burnt electrical component you need to replace them. If everything looks good the ECU can still be bad. I know it does not happen often, but sometimes it does. I had 00 I30 and fought cylinder 4 misfire for 6 months. Plugs were new, coils checked out fine, wires were good. I ended up pulling out the ECU and opening it up. It looked fine, but I decided to order a new one anyway. I had the dealer program the new ECU and car ran great. No issues.

The blinking CEL might mean you have multiple cylinder misfire.
