Need to replace wheel bearing - how to do it?

I have had wheel bearing problems for years. Seems that they always go bad. Ive swapped in whole spindles without replacing the used bearing and Ive had nissan put in new bearings. Seems to be a never ending problem. My axle nuts have come loose a couple times too.

Anyway, passenger front needs a new wheel bearing. I thought about replacing the bearing and hub assembly together. Looks like rockauto.com has some hub assemblies already put together?

Which brand hub/wheel bearings should I buy? Should I buy local from a parts store or online? What all should I replace?

Thanks for the help.
Matt

all the hub/bearing assemblies I've found on rockauto are for the rear...did you buy separate or as one assembly?

yeah I saw the ones for the rear. They are separate for the front and they have to be pressed together.

Yeah I wish it was already assembled too. Less room for error on my or a shops part pressing it together.

So I got the wheel bearing in that I ordered online and it is not sealed... I ordered the Timken 510009 from RockAuto.com

When I took the new hub/bearing to the shop to have it put into the spindle, the mechanic told me that the bearing wasnt sealed and wouldnt last long at all. So I went and bought a National sealed bearing from Advanced.

Should all the wheel bearings be sealed? Or do people use unsealed wheel bearings?

The seals press into the knuckle after the bearing and snap rings are in.

I suggest Timken. I got both bearing and hub at autozone for like 190. I had a complete failure so I couldn't wait.

What I did was disassemble everything and take the knuckle to a machine shop and have them press in and out the bearing and hub. Cost me $35.

This is one of those things that you really need a press to do correctly. There are instructions out there to do it without one. But, for what I paid, it was a no brainer.

And I don't know what seals you guys are talking about. AFAIK there is the hub, bearing and snap rings.

The seals are 40232 (11 bucks each), one on each side of the bearing assy (40210). Snap rings (5 bucks each) are 38514

This is from nissanpartsasap.com. NEW OEM bearing AND HUB (40202M) are 120 total.

Hmm...I wonder if they reused my seals or if the Timken set actually came with them.

Oh! you are talking about the inner and outer grease seal. Yeah I bought and used a new inner seal.

But I am talking about the bearing itself being sealed. Ill try to get some pics. I just went ahead and bought one that was sealed and called rockauto to return the unsealed timken one.

the only seals I know are the inner and outer gease seals that keep the dirt out and the wheel bearing grease in so that it lasts longer.

Bought the timken bearing as well, along with two new seals. Got the old one pressed out, new one pressed in. Problem solved. Would've been a one day job, but my ABS sensor played difficult and had to be replaced.
