The entire HVAC plenum and associated sensors and controls throughout the car.

You're better off buying a different car if you want auto climate control.

Unfortunately, this is no easy task either, as the electronic climate controls are not easily exchangeable between 95-97, and 98 and 99. Only 98's can directly swap in the 99 climate control and gain the AMB button.

You have no idea of how difficult that would be. The easiest way is to buy a junk car that has the auto climate control and use it for parts. You will be changing wire harnesses (note plural) and all kinds of interior parts in the dash and behind the dash.

Better yet, buy a good running car that has auto climate control and have a good day.

Apparently this is the case for some things and this is one of them which I considered a year or two ago. I also considered adding on ABS but that is also a tedious task. Stick to manual as I had to..

Is "automatic" the same as the digital display ones like these?

Yes, the top pic is the auto climate control for 95-97 and the bottom one is the redesigned one for the 98-99 models.

Yes its possible it is very labor extensive. You have to change the air door mixer and air mode door items
It took me 3 months to get this done..not to mention you have to re-arrange every pin in the wire harness...but very possible.

Wow nice job I bet it looks nice. Well there goes my right now dream of getting a digital one. So you managed to do that without having to get and wire a new wire harness?

I used pigtail from a 99. It was honestly a waste of time and money not to mention the headaches and frustration was awful. I would just buy a 98 or 99 and call it a day. If you decide to do it. Invest in a terminal kit you'll need it.. Good luck

What is a "pig tale"? I do have a 1999 Maxima. But I have a malfunctioning manual one. It does not turn "off" when it is set to off.

I guess this is a terminal kit? Which one do I need?

This part is easy,
I grabbed a Saturn Vue mirror with built in compass and amb temp and threw it in my Max.

Granted you have to glue the mount to the windshield or adapt the stock mount for the new mirror, and run a couple wires, but it looks a lot easier than messing with climate controls. Plus you always have the amb temp to look at on the mirror without messing with the climate screen.
