dreaded inspection

maybe someone could chime in on this...

cat not ready
o2 not ready
evap not ready

I believe if 2 are not ready i can still pass the ny inspection with my 99 maxima(auto)

Have a piggy back o2 spliced in the two secondary sensors.
no CEL.

which one of the 3 "not readys " is easier to fix given that i can still pass with two.? should i just run a real secondary o2 so system reads data and becomes ready?

another mod is 00vi.
any input would be greatly appreciated it.

In NYC if you have a CEL on for no reason, you wil fail.

If you fix the 02 and the evap, and clear the CEL and have the computer ready without the CEL coming back on for the CAT then you should pass

You can't "fix" a not ready.
Drive the car more, you need all inputs ready and NO error codes.

I had this issue years back on my 96. The monitors would not change to ready, even after over 1,000 miles of driving. People kept telling to just drive it & to not reset the ECU. After all those miles I was frustrated, & I then reset the computer, drove for a couple hundred miles & the car passed. This was a bit of a pain, as I had to make sure that each time I took the car that the catalytic converter was hot due to the aftermarket y-pipe. The guys at the shop were pretty cool about me running in many times. I think they were as happy as me when all the monitors finally said that they were ready.

that's one thing i can't stand about the max getting older is the constant worry about passing inspection. and it's always emissions that i fail, this year i replaced the " original " o2 in the rear cat which had 243,000 on it!! goes to show nissan built a good machine.

From what I know, I/M readiness is comprised of those categories.....I have an EGR issue, whereby if I reset the MIL, the I/M is not ready for a cycle. I've never been able to exactly figure out except from the web....but I've driven 100 miles and had the I/M not ready, I've driven 28 miles and the I/M was ready.

Yesterday, when I had to do the state inspection, the week before the SES lit up. I reset it. I drove the next day using the car, and as soon as I saw the I/M being ready, I parked the car for almost a week.

Yesterday morning, I drove gently to the inspection station, lamp stayed off, it passed. That's my strategy.

The SES will light months after the reset, and it has lit up the same day, unpredictable....

I agree, I don't think state emissions say, "one not ready ok--you choose the category."

The obd2 readers states I/M yes (meaning ready), or no (not ready).

When a tech fixes a defect, he has to know the cycle in order to redo the test. In other words, a defect may be found upon inspection, the defect is then repaired, and so there is a legitimate reason to reset the MIL after the repair, and then retest with the I/M in a ready state....

the shop i've gone to mentioned something about if one out of 3 becomes ready he can pass me. seafoam i will try, although i've done before just not sure how far back that was.
if im not mistaking this not readiness has been for a good while. im guessing this piggy back o2 simulator has something to do with it, although some people reported that it works fine on their cars. this makes me not want to mod....

funny thing .. went to shop with snap-on blue tooth monitoring tool hooked up. fast and furious ****. all voltages are ok, although somespikes were detected out of range and hence the code. so suggestion was change the air intake back to stock to experiment. shop was 40 miles away from home. as i drove back decided to reset my CEL. drove home parked messed with my air intake, changed the set up a bit. had pipe-sensor-filter went with sensor-pipe-filter. anyway. when i checked OBD. two were not ready , no CEL. Drove to shop and passed the inspection, LEgally! 30 minutes later CEL is back...

Is it true if i Have my Airbag light on, will i fail inspection? I have inspection comming up in 2 months and Ive had this airbag on since janaury, bought the car in october with no warning lights, then I do remember one day my friend on the passenger seat, he put the seat all the way back and then all the way down.. im guessing he caused the wire to stretch under the seat and caused airbag light.. idk why i let him do that lol.

Some states will let you pass with the air bag light on. Why don't you just reset it and see if it comes back.

Your O2 sims may well be the problem, I've seen it a few times before. Is there any way you can plug your old O2's in just to do the emissions and then switch it back? If you did that, I bet you'll pass with no problems and your CAT/O2's will show ready. I know it's a pain but emissions is a PITA, especially in certain states that really care about emissions (like where I live now, sigh)...

Most of all, good luck and hope you get it done! Let's all move to West Virginia, no emissions laws and straight pipes for all!

They don't really care about that airbag light in Ny. If they say its gonna fail you , and you don't actually want to address the problem just pull the bulb in the cluster.

My airbag light has been going off for the last 3 years. Never bothered because its too involved lol.
