Idle ?

In my friends 97Max 5spd, when slowing down to pay a toll, puts car in neutral the idle of course drops but it goes a tad under 1k and then bounces back up to 1k if this normal?shouldn't it just got to 1k and sit there

Was the car cold? RPM's seem to be a bit jittery (as well as slightly on the high side) when the car is still waking up

lol...I know what you mean. My idle is really messed up. It's around 1k at startup, but goes back down after the car is warmed up. Could be the cold weather because this didn't happen in warmer weather.

When I cleaned my TB it got rid of all my idle problems. could it be the ECU re adjusting the idle speed?

I cleaned it out part of the throttle body via pc valve carbon deposits. Should I try and cleaning it via throttle body itself.
Oh this wasn't at start-up I know most cars go through the whole high idle and then it settles. We were driving it for about 1hour+ and slowed down for a toll. I'm stumped

THE ANSWER

When it is cold outside it takes a little bit more for the engine to warm up to normal operating temperature. So inturn the engine rev's higher to get your engine warmer faster. This lets you warm up the inside of the car for comfort and the engine for optimal oil protection. But once the correct temp is reached the idle drops down to the 600 rpm to 800 rpm range. This is normal.

That's power steering in action.
