Why you should always make sure...

...that the underbody panels are secure and not flopping around. Changed the oil this weekend while doing all 4 corners of brakes, and after an hour drive I hear a horrible noise from under the hood. I get underneath and I see this...

..and this...

Apparently at some point, that cover panel came loose and got caught in the wind, causing it to rub against the tire and wear the giant hole through it. At least it didn't wear away the section that has the part # printed on it, so I can easily figure out what the replacement part is. And thankfully it didn't get caught up in all of this, which is now exposed to the elements:

I'm sure it didn't help, but yeah, they're snow tires, even in the summer. For me the Max is far from a daily driver or any sort of performance vehicle, so the snow tires work. I've put less than 3,000 miles on the car since buying it last November; it only gets used in extremely bad weather or when I need to haul more people or stuff than I can fit in this:

As soon as I bought my max, that "sheild" was one of the first things to go, a waste of time IMO

I have seen this happen to many cars, especially if the owner put some big *** wheels on there.

I've been without splash guards for years.. Especially that one. That one in particular makes oil changes and belt changes 100x easier and take half the time lol
