Maintaining turn signal function without dash
Maintaining turn signal function without dash
Hello, I've been perusing these forums for a while, this is my first post:
Im currently working with a team to prep a 99 Maxima for our local 24 Hours of Lemons race and this forum has been a huge help in answering a number of our minor questions, but I think we finally have one I haven't seen on here. We pulled the dash last week to lighten the car and comply with the race rules regarding airbags. This caused us to loose our turn signals, but from a previous post I learned we needed to put the hazard light switch back in to complete the circuit. Now, the hazard lights function perfectly, but nothing at all happens when trying to use the turn signals. Does anyone know of any other dash component we're forgetting that will get us back our signals? Thanks, you guys have been a huge help.

There is one flasher that serves both the turn signals and the hazard flasher. The turn signals and hazard flashers use different fuses, the hazard flasher switch has a set of contacts that switches the fuse/12 volt input.
The turn signals use 7.5 amp fuse # 14, middle column, 3rd from bottom.
The flow of power for the turn signals is the battery, fuse # H, ignition switch, fuse # 14, hazard switch, flasher unit, turn signal switch, left or right light bulbs (front, rear, dash).
The flow of power for the hazard flasher is battery, fuse # 11, hazard switch, flasher unit, left and right light bulbs (front, rear, dash).
The only thing in common for hazard lamps and turn signals are the hazard switch and the flasher unit.
Since you don't have the dash, I am guessing that you don't have the instrument cluster. You would be missing the green arrows that are in the cluster. I don't see how that would prevent the turn signals from working, but you could try plugging the cluster in and see.

Thanks, we do have the instrument cluster in, its actually just held in with zip ties right now, but the power flow approach is a good idea. I'll check the fuse for a possible blown fuse/open circuit and make sure we have everything attached to our cluster correctly. Thanks again.
