Steering rack buhsings recommendation
Hey, all.
Replaced the rack a while back. Noticed the steering wheel has been cocking to the side after turning. Jacked the car up and had my wife wiggle the wheel back and forth. The rack is sliding side to side... Pretty sure I got the Moog bushings when I was r&r'ing the rack.
Any recommendation for these? OEM? Polyurethane?
Thanks!
check this 3rd gen thread to an equivalent visual of what i'm experiencing (though, not that extreme): forums.maxima.org/3rd-generation-maxima-1989-1994/549221-anyone-lethargic-steering-response.html

Was it these ones?

I'm swaying towards OEM at this point, as I can't find ES and from what I've read they might not be as durable for these cars. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Thanks!

Just a quick update. Ended up getting OEM bushings.
Here's what came out of the car:
Definitely an installation error on my part. new bushing went in just fine and seems to hold everything together snug.

sorry to thread jack but wanted to ask the OP... Was there play in your steering or after you turned was it just off like a bad alignment of the steering wheel? I've got play but can't seem to find the culprit.
Outer ends seem snug, inners dont seem to move. Got a funkyball joint but it still felt solid on the LCA. Not surehow to visually check these though

no thread jacking, man, it's all good no play in steering (though the new bushings feel much better). the steering wheel would be cocked to either side after some turns. the rack was very loose.
definitely suggest you getting a helper and having them turn the wheel while you're looking for stuff that shouldn't be normally moving.
not many components that could cause looseness. you can undo the outers and physically move the threaded part side to side. it shouldn't be floppy. make sure all boots are still intact. once the outers are off, pull the inners in and out. those shouldn't be too loose either, but depending on the mileage, could be considered as having normal play.
check your ball joints. those might be easier replaced with the lca as a complete part, since you have to press them in/out. doorman lcas are cheap, though some have had concerns with their QA.
Let us know how it goes!
