More problems with my 1997 maxima. p0171 code
i know even know where to start now , i took my car for inspection and it failed , the guy tells me the monitors are not ready , i go to autozone to check my codes i get p0171 , i need to pass inspection in 30 days , whwre should i start ? so for buying a maxima from a maxima.org member, though the car wa cared for ended up i got screwed big time . . im not even sure where to start diagnosing this car anymore
I'd lean towards the O2 sensor going bad. Intake leaks might be easy to check off the list. THe next one down as a possible cause is the 02 sensor. Not a big deal but you have to get creative with some hand tools to replace usually. 02 sensor socket plus some channel locks or adjustable wrench should be enough.
I know this isn't the same code, but when I got a P0170 code on my 95 max (similar to your P0171, both fuel system malfunctions) it was my O2 sensor that broke (well the mechanic did putting a bead on it for some unknown reason). I got it replaced and the code went away.
