loss of power/running crap

about 8 months ago i had my belt changed and loss alot of power and it squeaked like hell. i went back and had it tensioned twice. it squeaks very mildly once in a blue moon but if i push the gas and get higher in the RPM's the engine revvs but i get very little power. also i ran out of gas the other day and my car started running crappy, i tried some fuel system cleaner and it may have helped a little or i have just gotten used to it. if anyone knows anything help me out!

I think this has been answered infinity & 1 times on this site but since I'm bored...and taking a deuce, I'll respond.

Are you comfortable doing your own work on the car?

There are probably a number of things that need to be done and taking it to a shop won't be cheap. It could be one thing or multiple, so it might take some trial and error.

First lets start with the check engine light, is it on? If so, take it to an auto parts store and have them read the codes. Copy the codes and report back here.

depends on the work im not too experienced but i could give it a shot i can figure out most things i try to fix, and nope no check engine or service engine lights on. the belt and loss of power issues has been going on for a while but the car running crappy happened right after i started it up again after i ran out of gas.

which brand of plugs did you use? NGK or bust on these cars.

You ran out of gas...so of course it'll run like shiit for awhile, it's like drinking the dregs of the goffee pot at that point...all garbage. NEVER let your tank get below 1/8 (1/4 if you're like my wife and procrastinate). Use Premiun Unleaded if you don't already for the next few tanks...let it clean itself out.

Cool, that helps. I'm not sure about the running out of gas thing, maybe someone else could answer that.

Something really easy and helpful is cleaning your MAF (Mass Airflow Sensor)

A lot of people have fixed their loss of power issues by replacing the MAF but there is a chance it just needs a proper cleaning. Buy yourself a can of mass air flow sensor cleaner it will clearly say it on the label.

The fuel pump is dependent on fuel to keep it from burning up.

It is highly likely that your fuel pump is toast.

Get a Walbro and an OEM o-ring for the gas tank.
Make sure you reuse your sock off your old pump.

There is a video on YouTube that shows you step by step how to do it.

That's how I did mine.

This can be done easily yourself for less than $100.

idk what brand plugs i just said f it and let the shop do it when i got a tune up so im assuming they didnt use ngk i know the last ones were, also i have been running premium for like 4 or 5 months ever since my tune up and like i said i used some fuel system cleaner and i have run out of gas a few times i wont say how many but lets just say its been too many so im guessing i need a fuel pump. but now onto the loss of power. thats my main concern

well you can't regain power if you're still running like crap. The running like crap should be your FIRST priority. Then when it runs but lacks power, you diagnose that problem then. But it was mentioned above to get some MAF cleaner spray...do that

Is it auto? I bet you have a bad knock sensor as well, usually doesn't trigger a CEL, when I changed mine it was like night and day.

If your lowered leave the axle alone until it no longer works. You will tear the boots on your new axle within the hour you put them on if your low/slammed.

well technically im "lowered" but i just have illuminas with the springs that come on them so approx 1.5 in the front and 1 in the back. i want more low but axle, tire wear, and steering issues got me stressin!

In that case just replace em they should last a while.

If your plugs aren't NGK pick them out one by one and throw them out. Run to the parts store in pick up NGK copper plugs.

My fogs aren't tinted. They have capsules from an older Mercedes and 3000k hids. They are rewired to come on independently.

Use a heat gun to get better curves.
