Key barely turns the ignition
Hi,
Have a 95 Maxima, and the ignition is strange in that you have to turn the key ALL the way to get it to start, and often it feels like it won't turn far enough to get it to turn over. I can usually get it to start by turning it really quickly, but my wife often feels like she's gonna break the key by turning it so far.
Is this a known issue with that age of Maxima? What is the suggested solution?
cheers,
David

The ignition switch that is screwed on to the backside of the ignition key cylinder is wearing out. It is rather common. Many people will remove the ignition switch and shim the hole in the center of the switch to make it smaller and thusly getting more turning motion.
I say replace the switch. They are not real expensive.
