are you saying that no nissan dealership in new zealand can get you the differential bearings? i find that very hard to believe.

anyway, if you are looking to order from the states there are about a million places to order from, both dealerships and parts suppliers. courtesyparts.com is one.

Go to any industrial bearing supplier in New Zealand, give them the application and accurate size. Should be very easy to find them.

Yes that is correct no stock in new zealand at all and would go onto factory back order ex japan with no available eta, Also these bearings are a special no engineering or bearing wholesaler in nz can supply,

is there some bearing embargo on NZ that we don't know about or something? what you are describing is kind of bizarre.

i realize NZ may not have quite the ease of access that the US does, but i could literally go to any one of like 15 nissan dealerships within 50 miles of my home and have these bearings within 2 days unless something has changed within the last couple years and there is a massive shortage of NTN et-cr-0834st.

I googled it just now and found lots of bearing suppliers that can supply it. Can you order from one of those?

what reason does nissan NZ give you as to why they can't get you a common part like this?

Mate i know, who would have thought something as common as a nissan maxima could turn into such a drama, but hey we are at the bottom of the world and seemed to get the ripped off for most things as much as possible.
Anyway courtesyparts.com seemed to have a limited supply and hopefully will send me a couple, cheers for all your help.

i just thought of something, when you ask nissan for the bearing are you giving them et-cr-0834st as the part number you need? if so, they aren't going to have a clue what that is. you need to give them the nissan part number for that bearing, which is 38440-96E00 (it may be different for NZ but i doubt it, that part number should at least give them somewhere to start.)

No they looked the diff bearings up on their parts diagram, or more like i showed them the bearings I required as they were to thick to work out what diff side bearings look like, I didnt just ask for some random bearing number.

I think I need to do this. Is it mandatory to remove the gearbox to do this or can it be done with it in the car?

i suppose if you tried hard enough you could do diff bearings in the car. you could also sink the car in a lake and do the diff bearings while wearing full scuba gear if you really wanted to. why would you want to? do it the easy way, take the trans out and do it on a bench.
