Air intake temp sensor

The wires on my air intake temp sensor broke off. It's a 96 GXE. This http://www.courtesyparts.com/16580m-...-p-128947.html is the correct part.

But I keep seeing this kind of thing http://www.ebay.com/itm/SMP-STANDARD-AX63-Switch-A-C-Ambient-Temperature-Intake-Air-Temperature-Sensor-/121174660195?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Model%3AMaxima%7CYear%3A1996&hash=item1c36929463&vxp=mtr as the replacement for a 96. I think this is what's on 99s, or maybe 97-99s. But I don't see that on my 96.

Does anyone know if the AX63 is a replacement, maybe it just snaps into the existing hole and fits the connector?

If only the wires are damaged, why don't you just re-wire the sensor you have?
If you are not sure which sensor you have just pull yours out and take a look at it. I think the eBay sensor is the one you need. I think that those sensors are the same for the different years, but the locations of the sensors are different.

Correct me if im wrong but the only difference would be how the sensor is held in place. The sensor itself is same while the mounting differs.

If i was you, just splice the wires back together. If it doesnt reach the intake you could simply plug the hole and let the sensor dangle next to it, its really not an important sensor.

They're clearly different sensors. From other threads, it appears that the ebay version was used on 97-99, in a different location. It's possible that the ebay is a non-identical replacement that will work anyway, but it would have to fit snugly into the hole, the connector would have to fit, and it couldn't trigger a CEL. I'm in CA, and I can't have a CEL when I go to have it smog tested. That's why I can't leave it disconnected either.

My wires broke right at the point where they go into the sensor. I tried soldering them, but the broken ends are flush to the surface, and they simply won't hold.

I may have OReillys order one just to see if it will work.

If only the wires are damaged just fixed them like I mentioned earlier. Go to a junk yard and cut the plug with few inches of wire. Then wire this into the harness of the car and plug into your sensor. Very simple fix that can cost you $1-2.

They are different, 95-96 are mounted to the side of the air box. 97-99 are mounted in the snorkel. Just like the links, 95-96 bolt in and have a short length of wire and a large plug.
97-99 push into a grommet and have no wires.
They are not worth trying to retro fit. I'd find one locally as all the online stuff seems to be wrong.

Thank you. That's the conclusion I came too to. I'd love to find one at the JY, but all the air boxes seem to be gone.

You could also grab a snorkel off a 97+ and the sensor and splice that in. I had to do something similar for my intake.

The airboxes get pulled pretty quick. But look in the trunk/back seat. Might be in there.

Yeah, I did that. But I got lucky. I tried another JY and none of their Maxes had it, but I noticed a familiar looking air box lying in the engine compartment of a Lexus. Turned it over, and there was my sensor. I don't know if some Lexi have the same sensor, or someone took an air box from a Max and moved it, but I'm good to go now.
