Ugh... Car accident 4th Gen down!

Actually she's still drivable but...

Damage is mostly in the quarter panel, but the interior light was staying on due to the switch in the rear door not getting activated.

It's a 1999 SE-L 5 speed with 112,000 miles on it, that came with every factory option. Just replaced the original clutch less than 3K ago.

Best part was that the accident was my fault as I was in a rush. Grrrrrrr!

So I will be looking for a new car after 6 years with 4th Gens... :-(

So the big question is... is there anyone crazy enough to fix this no rust Colorado car or should I part it out?

As always, thanks for any advice!!

By the time you replace the damage
You might start having issues with the squaring of your rear axle.

Get another 4th gen shell and swap it all over trust me. You dont want to spend the money fixing this one.

It's part out time.

Let's be realistic here everyone.

Sad sight to see.
Glad your ok.

I would like to throw in the 3rd option of buying another one and then keeping what you need out of your "old" car then part out the rest.

If you were in NYC I would buy it right this minute, just curious how much would you sell it like it sits?

Yeah I'm curious too!!

Called the dealer and the rear quarter replacement alone is $914 + Tax... http://forums.maxima.org/images/smilies/eek.gif

Fixing it would have to be a labor of love. This is way beyond my skillset and it makes NO sense whatsoever for me to pay someone else to do it... this would be a great project for a kid learning auto body repair. It sure would be a shame to part it out but realistically this make the most sense economically.

I guess I'll drive it until I find something else. Luckily the gas cap and trunk still work!

wait wait... u called the dealer and they said they can replace (meaning that they could fix it) for around 910$ + tax.. so $1000? cause i do have some damage on my rear quarter panel on the driver side, its not too bad or big, but it is quite annoying to see. if it cost 910$ at the dealer, im curious how much it would cost for mine... just repair though.

ah shoot.. i think i forgot they gotta do labor too? so 910$ for replacement alone.. i see. so lookin at 1500-2000$ repair all together?

That's at least $3k damage. Whose fault? Insurance company will total the car. I would get another 4th gen instead, not worthty to fix it, the frame is damaged and is difficult to get it straight out.

Is it me, or do 4th gens have a knack for getting hit in the rear quarter panels?

that car is toast, trust me. the frame is going to be damaged and that rear is going to need alot of rebuilding. do you have collision?? if not, i'd sell the car as a whole and start over. gl

Part out. Or junk the shell, keep engine and trans for parting out. eBay and classifieds will pick that stuff up real fast. That or sell car as whole. Insurance? If it wasn't your fault, just total the car like said above.
