Help!! Cant Get Water Pump Out!!

During the removal process of the water pump I forgot that there was 3 bolts to take out. So, when I went to remove the waterpump from its housing with the 2 8mm bolts, the 3rd bolt was still in place. As I turned those bolts with the other one still in place they broke off. I dont know what to do now. Please help!!

The pump will come out without using the 8mm bolts to push it out. Remove the 3rd bolt, grab the pump and pull/wiggle. The only thing holding it in is friction from the 2 o-rings. It may take a bit of force, but it will come out.

I did the very same thing but exactly opposite.

I over torqued the third bolt putting the pump back and snapped it.

Honestly, based on the engine compartment configuration and the work space, I had to take it to my shop. A tool had to be fabbed so an extractor could used to remove the broken bolt.

That's a tough one to take on in your garage.

You broke both?! When you broke the first one, why did you keep cranking on the second one?

Bewrong, when you turn the bolts you have to do them dually, so that the pressure is balanced. After the first one broke, I realized what happened and took out the 3rd bolt. But I had aready put to much pressure on the 2nd 8mm bolt so when I tried again without the 3rd bolt in, it was too late. I guess it was already too weak, and it broke also.

Those 8mm bolts are only threaded into the pump, not the engine. They'll come out with the pump. You just gotta get the pump out. Like I said, it comes out, it's just tight and require a bit of force and wiggling.

Also, pull the upper bolt out of your front motor mount. You'll be able to jack the engine up higher and get a better angle. Just make sure you unclip the mount wire from the bracket so you don't stretch it when jacking up the engine.

Easy fix! Drill the remaining bolt and extract it!

Before you put the new pump in, try threading a 6mm bolt in the two holes to make sure the extreme pressure from the 8mm bolts didn't distort the first few threads. Also, be sure to use some lube on the new o-rings so they don't pinch when you put the new pump in. I usually use dielectric grease because it's not harmful to rubber.

I thought there were 2-bolt holes for backing the pump off it's seat! no need for pry bars!

Yeah I did.....Small heelbars would work better than prybars....If he F#@k it up with 2 bolts imagine what damage will be done with a prybar?

Imagine what could be done if we spent more time offering helpful advice and less time calling people f**k ups.

I usually help people all the time I'm on here.....1 out of about 1000 usually get something harsh....But anyway a heel bar would be his option thus far....
or a couple of modified salvage screwdrivers with the tips bent!

No. They thread into the inner timing cover.

No, the 6mm bolts that hold the pump into the motor thread into the inner timing cover. The 8mm bolts used to push the pump out of the timing cover thread into the pump only.
