Questions on 2000 muffler on 4th gen and silencer..

I think I’ve finally outgrown the stage of wanting people to hear my car….so I've done a lot of searching and I've decided to either:
1)Get rid of my Apex'i universal exhaust and put on a 5th generation variable backpressure unit, OR
2)Keep my Apex’i and put a ‘silencer’ on it.

I have an intake, Y-pipe and RT Cat.

My questions are:

1)What is the reliability of a used/new 5th Gen unit? Should I go new or just buy used?
2)How does a Silencer work? Does it restrict exhaust flow? Anybody use one and do they work?

Thanks in advance fellas….

Keep my Apex’i and put a silencer on it.

I'm not sure how the silence works, but you're gonna only get about 1 hp from the 5th gen exhaust if you're lucky.

(btw, the 5th gen muffler question is in the 4th gen FAQs)

if u really want to make your car quiet(quieter), just grab your stock muffler from the 4th gen......if u want to you can use the 5th gen muffler.....doesnt matter......u can also just pick up a custom muffler from an exhaust shop.....tell them to deaden it and it shouldnt cost more than 70 bucks

i see...so pretty much, between a 4th gen stock muffler and a 5th gen stock muffler, power wise, it's not that much different...maybe 1 or more and some regained lower end torque with the 5th gen. hmmmm

There's not much power difference in ANY muffler you chose. You could use a gutted wombat and it would be almost the same

But the 5th gens at least have the dual chamber thing and it does have an ever so slight growl when attached to a custom cat-back pipe + no resonator.

How long would they last? Well put it this way. My oem 3-gen muffler lasted 100k miles easy. So far I haven seen an aftermarket one do that yet.

It does look slightly odd becuase the 4-gen has a single cut-out and the 5-gen has dual outlets. But most guys just mount it just below the cutout and call it a day. Looks nice. I have the one big oval chrome tip but I think maybe the dual chrome tips off the older Altima/Sentra would work also. They also used the same or similar dual chamber muffler

Swapping o the 5th gen muffler will no almost nothing. Any aftermarket muffler is just for sound & looks as well.

Confused put a 2k muffler on and noticed no gains (and he's boosted).

Chris91SE put a 5th gen muffler on his 3rd gen VG and noticed nothing.

What to do....

Well, let's put it this way. No offense to all the people with stock exhausts, but IMHO, I just think that the single little stock muffler on the Maxima makes it look wimpy!

Prepared to get flamed,

Its all good man. It does look... wimpy. I only left my stock 4th gen muffler on for the sleeper look. People at the track hear nothing & wonder how i can be so fast.
