99 max with security light always on

Well I just got done with the 3.5 swap in the car and now the security light will go out and is killing ignition and fuel. I tried to get a locksmith to reprogram the key and his programmer was having a problem with communicating with my car.

You might need a new ecu, the 99 are prone to this prob, if you need an ecu I have one from a running and driving 5spd 99

Call another locksmith. It seems not all have the right equipment to communicate with our beloved 99's.

The locksmith needs a different cable for the 99 than the one for 2000 and newer. 99 programming goes through the Consult connector, not the OBD connector.

well just got the time for the second locksmith but no luck at all. Hes code reader just said that it could not connect. Now the first locksmith plugged his reader into the obd1 gray plug. the second one plugged it in to the obd2 plug. but both had the same out come. As for the ECU I don't see how the ecu can go bad just by the car sitting around and it worked just fine before i put the 3.5 swap in. Is there anything else i'm missing with the swap that is making this happen. I got 18 days before deployment. I really want to hear her start and its kicking my butt.

Last resort would be to let the dealer do the reset.

12 volts has to be on one of the pins in both the Consult and OBD connectors. Check 2 fuses, fuse # 13 (10 amp), middle column 2nd from bottom and fuse # 40 (7.5 amp) top right corner.

While these fuses also supply power for other things, you might not have noticed them at this point.
