KYB GR-2 vs MONROE oeSPECTRUM
First let me say this I did search some useful information popped up but no enough to sway my decision.
The backround: the car is a 97 auto gle sitting on 18in 2004 se maxima wheels wrapped in 245/45/18 tires all four shocks are blown..
The problem: I'm purchasing some eibach prokit springs on Thursday from another .org member so I can lower her a little bit to stop the 4x4 look. my pockets are on a budget as I have to buy control arms and pay for labor for all this..
I want to stay as close to the comfort of the stock ride as I can..
My decision is coming down to kyb-gr2 vs monroe oeSpectrum solely because of price (would have bought agx)
I already know that gr-2 is stiffer than the monroe but what's going to last longer, sit better with the eibach prokit springs , and best qaulity of shock?
Thanks for your help

i think Eibachs are a sport spring so its gonna be a little stiff.
When i was looking at doing my suspension I ended up with Tokico blues and the H&R springs. I have never had a comlpaint from my girl about the ride so its good .
The GR-2 will last longer but are going to be stiffer. Plus I read on the .org they got more stiffer during the cold. Thats why I went with the tokicos cuz I live in mass.

I have eibach's with kyb struts on my 3rd gen and i think they're a great combo. It's not so stiff your car bangs on every bump or anything but yes they are fairly stiff with still a not bad level of comfort with much better handling over stock. Monroe's are good but are more of a stock replacement while the kyb's is a step up. No complaints so far after a few years the ride feels just as good as when i first put them on.

Even though I'm running Illuminas in the rear, the ride is going to be the closes your going to get to a stock ride but the ride is still a little stiff. Nothing like KYBs on H&Rs, that was just terrible and the struts didn't last over 10k miles. This was back in MA when I lived there driving around the mess the Big Dig made.

Depending on the amount of drop, any stock replacement strut (KYB Gr2, Monroe OESpectrum) will blow in short order. I think the general rule is 1.5" or less, or you will need "drop" struts. Personally, I would not run drop springs without matching struts. If you're dead set on stock lenght struts and on a budget check out sensen.

Yeah if you're on a budget, why didn't you throw SenSen into the equation? First of all, when you lower your car and add larger plus 3 modifications to the tire and wheel, You wouldn't have a stock configuration anymore...So I think you need to reflecton want you're doing!!!
1. Lowering vehicle 1-1.5" (less suspension travel)
2. Add larger OEM Wheels 18" from a 15 or 16" Oem setup...(More Unsprung weight)
3. Larger tires (more unsprung weight)
4. Monroes (durablility???) Can than continually catch that heavier suspension over and over without rubbing? Is there enough shock to control the higher PSI Eibach spring?
5. KYB's GR-2 (awesome strut/shock) for your 15- 16" setup lowered not sure about that 26 lbs 18" wheel!...
6. Wake up this is a Pipedream or Wetdream!
7. Invest into some KYB AGX and be done!

Wrx (my current car) comes with gr-2 stock. It is a very firm set of struts, borderline harsh, awesome for handling though. To have gle ride quality you need adjustables. With that said Sensens are stock replacements if you are in a pinch, until you can get something better.
