black guage to SE guage swap

Got a 95 black cluster and wanted to swap to the SE white face cluster, but want to keep the same mileage on odometer, I pulled each one from a junkyard and took them apart 4 peices, tach, gas guage, temp, and speedometer from the SE cluster. How do I swap the odometer off my original cluster to the new one without messing up anything? My cluster has 250,000 miles, New se one has 286,500 miles.

Iirc, people just swap it and don't care.

It illegal to adjust them, so

We'll I don't want 286,000 until I actually get to that many miles, I'm at 250,000 now but I guess ill figure out a way to get the new one rolled bak or removed. It would take me forever to roll bak 286k bak to 250 k

Agreed. I'd probably just swap it and not worry about the mileage. You know what the mileage is currently and if need be just do the math seeing it is illegal to mess with the odometer.

That is what I was thinking. I put mods on my car and drive. I know how many miles the car and parts have. Before I sell the vehicle I take off the mods and sell the car and parts separately.

They don't roll back. Broke a couple trying. There is a sticky somewhere about how to remove the needles, to swap the face.

cuoldnt you simply swap the whole cluster as well?

ps don't forget to super clean the glass..

Maybe it's a sign.

I've owned a 98 Max SE and now have a 98 I30T with the black face gages.....I don't miss the white face gages at all.

I have GLE and have a couple friends with se's, and when i see people on the .org making the change from black to white i allways wonder why, (unless theyre trying to pull a fast one before they sell)
but its all about personal preference I guess..

nah hopefully not selling anytime soon, Its just a preference, I always liked the SE guages. Although I have seen some 4th gen SE models being advertised with low miles for 4 to 5K, and they had the black face guages, very misleading.

Funny you say, before i bought this gle, i knew from driving in one yrs ago that i wanted one...i just loved them from the 1st time i rode in one...anyway when i was looking at maxes on craigs i seen a few 98 GLE's with white face guages..but i frequented the .org while i was looking and learned the GLE'S came only with black faces...I even argued with a guy cuz of it..he swore up and down it came from nissan with awhite cluster...but he wasnt the orig. owner...and maybe he got screwed on it....but because of this site i didnt buy it!

thanks max.org!
