Re: military maxima

Depends. No way in hell you can have a car during Basic. But once you're assigned, ask your CO or XO. If he says no (Then for God's sake, don't argue ) then I would leave it at your parent's house. That's what I'm planning to do.

But I'm pretty sure that you can at least get a parking spot to keep the max in. But me, I'm getting a motorcycle for on-base transport .

Why didn't you join the Marines? A special MOS you wanted?

The Army is the best Army in the world, don't get me wrong!
But most Rangers are just people that couldn't make it as Marines.

I'm not trying to pizz on your parade, but seriously want to know. Marines get looked over alot because either people aren't up to the challenge, or the Army has certain MOS'es (being a bigger organization) thean the Marines that are more attractive to some people.

So which one are you?

Anyway, just my bit...We're all proud of you...go kick some booty.

I almost joined the army last year, reason being you can enlist for 2 years.. whereas marines, navy, air force, you must go at least 4.

Um....Marines are not stupid. Their average ASVAB scores are 4 points higher than Army, and 2 below Air Force, and about equal to Navy.

That makes the ARMY stupid!

Anyway, Remember Korea, and how the 3rd Marine Division saved the ENTIRE Army's azz (Including the Rangers) against the Chinese Offensive of 500,000 men, because they didn't run like b*tches like the Army did?? <Thus giving the name "Devil Dogs" by a Chinese Officer fighting them.>

People forget history so quickly.

ANyway, I'm not a marine. I didn't join only because I was making alot of money doing what I do. But if I needed direction or career skills, I would have joined in a heartbeat.

And I'm got 5 brothers in, and my Dad is a Colonel. (Yes, a Marine Colonel with 4 Masters Degrees, and 6 Bachelors).

Anyway, I've gone way OT on this.

Dude, you should be able to keep your car after BT no problem. I understand the 2 year thing. That's totally cool.

I got that.

My older brother was in that firefight in Haiti.
My other older brother was in the Persian Gulf driving an LAV

This is why I am biased:
My Dad spent a tour in Korea, and 3 in Vietnam, along with various scuffles in the Phillipines, Greneda, and Lebanon. He's the most decorated Marine since WWII. 4 Bronze Stars, 2 Navy Commedations, 2 Legion Of Merits, 2 Purple hearts, Silver Star, Vietmanese MOH, Triple Threat, etc, etc. So I'm biased. I grew up with Marines. I see how they treat their own vs the other branches.

BUT if you went in to get a good mechanics MOS and only 2 years, then more power to you. I wasn't ******* the Army, it's just from my personal knowledge, Marines are better for a life experience.

Example:
I also have an older brother who was in the Army, but that's because he's kinda slow (nice guy tho), so my Dad had him join the Army, because he'd naver make it in the Marines. That's absolutely true.

OK, to answer the actual question on this thread:
Have someone start your car and leave it running for half an hour once a week. That should be all you need for up to 12 weeks of being away.

If you do nothing, probably your battery will be dead, but that's about it. Try to store it somewhere covered also.

ok dude the car can go on base, just have to register it with the base. while your at boot just have mom or dad drive it around for a while once or twice a week just to keep it running and right before you leave like within a week of leaving change the oil and make sure you have fresh gas and the car has had a good bath too thats it.

Bruce

PS: good luck at boot.

Okay I am a US Marine and not to mess up this thread but you say Marines cant add 2 + 2 which is four but everyone clik on his profile here and these are his mods ( y pipes, b pipes, place racing intake, salorna body kit) Hmmm and we Marines cant add , Since when does the Maxima use 2 Bpipes and 2 Y pipes
and is not Salorna it is Sarona so dont make goofy comments like that when we have very smart Marines here on the board me and Nismo2020.

Anyways back to the thread question leave your car at home because you cant take it to boot camp when they assign you to a base or post whatever they call it, just have all your paper work and they will give you a decal and you can have your car on base, and live a normal life like everyone else.

No, you can't use the car at Basic Training

Some MOS schools will allow POV during training due to length but most will probably dictate students will not bring vehicles (Yes, your CO or XO DO know wheter or not and CAN dictate that by standards.) "Keeps students out of trouble in many cases"

Yes, look into the base regulations concerning what you need to register for a DOD sticker including original receipt for registration and current insurance with emissions considerations for all those Cali based people.

You should have no trouble letting it sit...you probably will only be gone a few short weeks before you can come back after graduation adn do regular maintenance on it to take care.

And yes I a Marine 1987-present.

ok well to let u all know i scored a 90 on the asvab test. also my basic training is 9 weeks and directly after that i have my AIT. i will not be allowed a leave inbetween my basic and AIT. so that should be another 6 weeks. what should i do with my car cause my pops said hes not gonna touch it cause im so protective of it also cause i bought the damn thing and i hate when people wanna drive my car. so what can i do. i have been told to change the oil and put marvel mistery oil in it and raise it on jax. also their is a type of gas treatment i can use. is this right or is all of this just wrong comon guys help me out. i just bought this and now i gotta leave it.

The ASVAB scores are wierd because, as I recall, there's 2 different scores.

I got 238 and 95. I have no idea which number means what....is the 95 a percentage, possibly?

They wanted me to go into intelligence, but I decided to not join and stay in the DotCom industry.......My dad, the Colonel, was pizzed for awhile, but he got over it as soon as he saw how well I was doing on my own.

Anyway, after dealing with 75% layoffs at work, I'm wishing I had gone sometimes.....but I make good money, so what can ya do?

And as far as I remember the rules on POV (After growing up military), you can't have your vehicle at Basic or MOS School.(The MOS Sschool can have exceptions with CO/XO approval)....so that's 6 weeks for basic, and up to 12 weeks for MOS School (depending on what school).

So that means that for 6 weeks your car will sit, then come home on your 10 day leave and start it up, change the oil, let the battery charge, then go off to MOS Schhol, come back and do the same thing....Then drive your POV to whatever base you get stationed.....and you work and drive like a normal person after getting your windows sticker.

I'm glad to see that your excited serve your country, but by definition you are a canidate, you will be awarded the title "soldier" when you are trained. Remember that when you go to Basic and they tell you your "rights as a soldier". It will get you in trouble if you don't know what you are considered. This is living experience talking.

the lower number is your asvab score I'm sure. I've never heard of anyones score being over 150. I believe thats the cap, or it was in 93 when I joined. I've been out since 2000, I was a medic in RNG BN.

Lets cut the crap... marines/army/navy/af/cg.
marines...they not smart enough to have their own medics
army...to unorganized to get their medics where they are needed
navy...to damn slow to get their medics to the marines
af...they can't drop a bomb with out them straying 10miles off course to kill the medics
cg...who the hell cars.

I have admiration for the marines, thats a true thankless job. They do a lot around the world without anyone caring. They tend to do a half **** job with it, but thats besides the point. The Army gets a lot of glory because of the S.O. groups it has.

And lastly...go ask any recon soldier, who began the training for the RECON... 5th SF group did, later the SEALS and RECON took over.

enough of my opinions... as long as you served and are honorably discharged--I will respect you guys the same. If you are in the army and you wear a patch on your right shoulder, I will love and respect you as my family and friend. If they sent your parents a flag to remember you by, I owe my freedom to you.

You'll have to excuse him...he's army...like he said...disorganized. In action and thoughts.

And by the way, Navy Corpsmen are considered Marines by all Marines. That makes many of them Marine Medics, as they spend nearly all their time with Marines.

But it's all semantics. Let's just celebrate the fact that the poster of this thread is serving his country and getting an educaiton in the process.

Good luck, man...I'm removing myself from this thread as it has gotten silly.

Any person who utilizes grammar /spelling techniques such as:

"u guys", "but anyways": have no ground to discuss fundamental intelligence quotation.
In any event (another way to say "anyways",
which is not proper English) the REAL backbone test is in providing for a wife and children while maintaining one's serenity. Good luck.

ummm...GO AIR FORCE...

As for bringing your car on base...after you're done with basic and all necessary training. Just go to the MP place on base and fill out paperwork to register your car on base...one thing though...don't get caught speeding on base!!!

You use the term "Former Marine" too.

Once in church the priest said "We'd like to welcome to our parish today "ex-Marine" Col. Sweeney". My dad, with his boomy voice yelled "There is no ex-Marines, only FORMER Marines. I'll always be a Marine, dammit!"

Heh....I thought only he said that.

well, this seems to be a pretty good thread. Looks like the marines out number the rangers. With all due respect, I have nothing against the Marines or any other branch of the military. Each branch has their own glorious history. Like the man said, once a marine, always a marine. Same thing for Rangers..once you get that yellow and black tap on your shoulder, you are always a Ranger.

But anyways, anyone watched blackhawk down...that movie is really good..

The Ranger Creed

Recognizing that I volunteered as a Ranger, fully knowing the hazards of my chosen profession, I will always endeavor to uphold the prestige, honor, and high esprit de corps of my Ranger Regiment.

Acknowledging the fact that a Ranger is a more elite soldier who arrives at the cutting edge of battle by land, sea, or air, I accept the fact that as a Ranger my country expects me to move farther, faster and fight harder than any other soldier.

Never shall I fail my comrades. I will always keep myself mentally alert, physically strong and morally straight and I will shoulder more than my share of the task whatever it may be. One-hundred-percent and then some.

Gallantly will I show the world that I am a specially selected and well-trained soldier. My courtesy to superior officers, neatness of dress and care of equipment shall set the example for others to follow.

Energetically will I meet the enemies of my country. I shall defeat them on the field of battle for I am better trained and will fight with all my might. Surrender is not a Ranger word. I will never leave a fallen comrade to fall into the hands of the enemy and under no circumstances will I ever embarrass my country.

Readily will I display the intestinal fortitude required to fight on to the Ranger objective and complete the mission though I be the lone survivor.

RANGERS LEAD THE WAY!

Black Hawk down was an awesome movie. Bill Clinton is an IDIOT for not sending in that little group of US rangers against thousands of those asains. We needed to overwhelm them. Rangers/Seals/Green Berats are for sneek missions, like snypers. NOT to take on whole armies.

Sheesh.
