Transmission

Hey guys I'm at a dilemma. I have a locked up manual engine that I pulled out of my 95 maxima. The engine that I bought and had shipped they said was also manual but the flyplates look totally different. The new engine had a flex plate which leads me to believe it's automatic. Now my question is can I switch the plates to make the automatic engine a manual and to work w the manual transmission? Thanks guys

Yes, remove flexplate and bolt on flywheel.

there is a steel or brass ring in the middle of the flywheel that prohibits me from putting the pilot bushing in. Can I pull that out?

You have to remove those bolts in the middle holding the automatic flexplate on the motor first. Do you understand that part?

Yes I've done that, I have the flex plate removed and the flywheel from the manual engine to swap it on but I'm just questioning that piece in the middle there if it can be pulled because the old manual engine doesn't have that piece therefore allowing the pilot bushing to be pushed into there.

I never thought of a conversion until I noticed the "flywheels" of the old engine and used one I bought were different. Through research I found the difference and I cannot return the engine, already have been working on it etc and have had it for awhile before finally getting to it. Now I just have an automatic engine that needs to go into my manual car so damn have to convert it.

there is no "converting" needed besides removing a few simple parts. i am as confused as quicky here. this isn't that difficult. i'd like to see a pic of the part causing your confusion.

btw the pilot bushing serves no function besides aiding in clutch alignment. you can go without it if you so choose.
