4th Gen. Bose Eddition Speaker Output

Hey guys!

So I am new to this thread but thank god i came across it! Like many people on here I need help with my Bose speakers system in my 1996 Maxima. I want to keep the speakers because they are quite superb for their age and that way I don't have to spend a boat load of money just to replace them for speakers that are close to or better quality because cheap ones just wont come close. Anyway I do want to replace the head unit and I am looking to put in a subwoofer as well. However the head unit is my problem. Obviously there is different voltage outputs for head units and they all produce different wattages per speaker. Well I want to find the best head unit I can with the highest voltage possible and the highest signal in db. I was trying to figure how many watts each speaker requires and then I read that this system has an amp powering the speakers? Is this true and in that case does the wattage output on the head unit not matter? Anyway My dilema is I found some nice 5v head units one has 20w per speaker the other 17w. I naturally was like well then lets go with the 20w but after looking at it I realized that the db rating on the 17w was much higher (120 compared to 102) and thats when I read that this Bose system has its own amp. In this case I believe that the watt output per speaker would not matter and I would want to go with the higher db. Is this true? As of right now I am so lost and just need some help to be pointed in the correct direction! So someone please help!

Thanks!
