These engines last to 250,000 miles and up on a normal basis, usually the car rusts out before the engine dies. If you want to boost you would probably need to have upgraded internals though.

Overall you have WAY better options as far as cars go for boosting. As for doing a 3.5 swap they are pretty cool from what ive heard but start saving and doing your homework, swapping in an engine that isnt meant for the car is no picnic.

If i was you id be looking at simple bolt ons to start with, unless you know exactly what youre doing, diving headfirst into boost/engine swaps is a recipe for failure. Rome wasnt built overnight.

3.5 swap is easy except for the timing components swap if you stay with 3.0 timing.
Still not hard though considering I know people that are barely literate that have done it.

Rebuild shouldn't be an option unless you have no access to used engines or just a lot of time and money on your hands.

3.0 does handle boost better on stock internals than a 3.5, BUT if I wanted to have the Maxima amount of fun I would upgrade a couple crucial internals on the 3.5, hunt for cams, and turbo with nitrous to make up for that lag.

Lol dude cmon now. Read the stickies. Then go ahead and check out the classifieds subforum. Theres a gorillian bolt ons made for these cars and the vast majority of them are not ebay specials.

What are you trying to accomplish? A beefed up daily driver? A track car? The ultimate sleeper? Or just something nice and light on the wallet? Think about what you want, then use the search bar to find what brands are prefferable.

For example if you want an aftermarket exhaust, search some variation of "best exhaust" or something like that. Will it tell you straight up what the "best exhaust" is? NO, because it doesnt exist - its all a matter of opinion and preferance and you will have to decide based on what you personally think is worth buying.

If you dont learn to love the search bar or treat the stickies like gospel then you will never get anywhere here. People can and will help you with legit questions but if you expect to be spoonfed info that is easily available by doing your own homework then dont even bother. Keep in mind a person with zero mechanical knowledge could research, buy, and install *ANY* bolt on for these cars based on info from this website without ever posting a single question - simply because there is so much info already out there from over a decade of questions being asked and answered.

Hope this helps!

Unfortunately the hay-day for these cars has passed. Most manufactures that were manufacturing and selling are not longer doing so. Best bet is to check the classifieds like its been mentioned.

There, you can find quality performance exhaust and suspension parts. Ive even seen the stillen supercharger on occasion.

Go for the 3.5 swap. You wont regret it. I wanted to do this on my 96 gle but this wish never came true because honestly I was scared of how hard it looked to do a 6mt swap

So I bough a 03 maxima se 6mt instead and man the vq35 is another world literally. I cant image this motor on my 4th gen.
