Hi:

My 1999 Maxima GLE, 30K miles, has been giving me starting trouble since 1 month back after being in a body shop for 1 month for replacement of transmission block (damaged in accident).

Now it starts after 5-10 seconds of turning the key. Was never like this b4. Same behavior even when warm.

Have tried dry gas 3-4 times, no improvement.

Checked battery condition, and connections, no problems there.

Per manual, spark plugs are platinum tipped and need replacement only after 60K miles. In any case, NAPA mechanic => if spark plugs were a problem the car wud not start at all!

Any tips?

Any wierd sounds comming out of it? Grinding sounds generall mean time for a new starter.

 

A few org member have has this happen only usually when it's cold. You may have the same problem only a little worse.

You may be loseing fuel pressure when your car is off. Most experience this overnight. If thats the case you have either a leaky injector or a bad check vavle. The check valve is in the fuel tank and is part of the fuel pump assembly I believe.

Try this.. Turn your key to the "ON" position, don't crank the motor. Let it stay in the ON osition for 10 seconds or longer then crank. If your car starts immediately, your problem is your fuel line pressure is droping when your car is off. If it doesn't start immediately, well, then this post was worthless to ya!

"Dry gas" is a chemical that helps remove moisture from fuel lines. It comes in a small bottle (costs $1), sold at gas stations, auto parts stores, wal-mart, k-mart, etc.

I will try the "keep on for 10 seconds" suggestion tomorrow morning.

 

Thanks. The car did not statr well even after leaving the key in the ON position for 10 seconds. Dealer claims that the spark plug is getting wet due to bad pressure regulator valve. Says will try and may cost ~ $900. How much is this valve? Is this covered by Nissan being that the car is < 3 years and < 32K miles? I can not find my warrantee book!
