New Headlight Assemblies

So the headlights on my 99 are cloudy and are pretty dim for nighttime driving. I've tried a kit that is supposed to polish them clear, but didn't work too well.

I've seen various headlights online, and some are actually pretty cheap (in terms of $$$). I'm looking to get some new ones, but have a few questions for those who've changed theirs:

What brand did you buy?
How was the install?
How is the light output?
How is the quality?

I want to order some this week to make the Max 'look' better.

Thanks

I don't think the aftermarket are going to be great quality, but hopefully people with more experience just in and post their input.

Eagle eye are quality IMO.

I have two sets and neither leak or have bad output.

Highly recommend and the price is fair.

if your headlight restoration kit thing didn't do a good job, its likely due to two reasons:

You half assed it and went too fast

The kit was the wrong one

Get a 3M kit, and take an hour per headlight and do it right.

Yes, I half-assed it. I didn't use a buffer, and I took about 30 minutes total.
If I buy the 3M kit, and a buffer, that will be more expensive than brand new headlight assemblies.

Fakie,
Do you have them on your Max? If so, do you have pics of them installed?

Thanks

I thinking about regressing back to the glass lense headlights since they seem to last longer shine wise....I'll protect them with Lamin-X and call it the day!

wrong.

20 bucks for the 3m kit and you use a power drill that you already have

Unless you go OEM, the fitment will never be PERFECT. Aftermarket is good, but not perfect fitment.

How old are your bulbs? Halogens get weaker over time. Replacing old halogens can bring back new life. Also, consider adding a ground kit, or just clean all your grounds by dis-connecting and re-connecting them in the engine bay.

Download your FSM from here;

http://boredmder.com/FSMs/Nissan/Maxima/

Goto the General Information page 27 (GI-27) for a more detailed description on how to clean your grounds.

Also be wary of high output bulbs. I tried GE Nighthawk platinums. Bright as hell. But they didn't last. And, when they blew they blew spectacularly. On regular bulbs you usually lose low beam but keep hi beam. One of the nighthowk bulbs died within 4 months and when it did, both hi and low beam were gone. I replaced it and sure enough the other side went less than 2 months later.

Not sure how old my bulbs are, but my headlight lenses are def the issue. They are yellowish as well.
Thanks for the info regarding the FSM, the link didn't work but probably bc I'm at work and it's blocked.
I would only use "normal" bulbs. I'm aware of the brighter ones dying faster. Just hoping for a better look and obviously more light.

This. Now if you say you don't have a drill in your arsenal of tools, well then I'm afraid to tell you you're not a man.

Got to a body shop or detail shop. Ask if they can run a buffer and some aggressive compound over the lenses. Literally takes less the 10 minutes and you'll have crystal clear headlights.

This. The pair I got from ebay or amazon I forget which one look beautiful, had no problems fitting them, and even came with a set of headlights on them
