Y-pipe feelings

Now some of you may know that I put my Y-pipe on my max last week or so. I have a 1997 dodge ram with a 5.9l stroked to a 6.2 with a 3.5" cat back and a magna flow. It sounds like it will eat your soul, and when you decelerate it gives you a nice burble and some pops here and there. My max will not do that, sounds awesome on the way up with the 2" catback and the magna flow, but gives you nothing on the way down. It's like having a 5 star dinner with out dessert. You're very happy with what you got but it leaves you wanting a little bit more

I'd say get a new exhaust. 2" is too small, gotta open it up more to hear those sounds and still I'm not sure you can get that from a 4th gen without a bunch of other mods (headers) but at least a 2.5" to 3" exhaust dude

You've got apples and oranges here. Both a fruit but very different.

When you finish the 5 star dinner in the Maxima, take the Dodge to the Dairy for fresh made ice cream.

At the end of the evening, you've had a nice meal.

As already said go bigger on the cat back. My max has a 2.5 back and i get lots of pops and nice rumbles when decelerating it sounds awesome and i dont even have a y pipe installed yet just a catback and a short ram and still sounds ballsy

i don't think the maxima has much room for improvement in the exhaust area, i have the warpspeed y and monza cattback and putting bigger pipes just makes it loud imo. you should just listen to some sound clips and try to decide what tone your looking for.

Sorry I ment 2.5" cat back. I'm happy with the sound and the way it drives and everything else I just like my burble in the way down. Maybe it's time for a 3" and a better cat :-)

It's hard to make a V6 made/designed 20 years ago sound good.

With that said I have NEVER compared the sound of my VK56 to my VQ30/35, nor will I ever, I know better.

If you want pops and gargles remove all the cats. Pre-cats and main catalytic convertor. If that's not enough run a straight pipe after the y-pipe. Mine poped and gargled when my flex section had a hole in it.

Oh I know they are different animals entirely. Just saying that when i go from my truck to the max I miss the the sound going down and i wish my max would do it also. I know a cammed and stroked big block will sound and behave different then a mostly stock 3.0 v6. I'm not daft
