Left tail light problem.

Change the bulb when headlights are on they are on but once brakes are applied the secondary filament doesn't light up. Bought new bulb and everything swapped the bulb to other side and no problem. Anyone know the fix rather not get take to a mechanic or get pulled over.

bought 1157 bulbs not 1156, correct?

Check the wiring at the connector. Maybe grab your voltmeter and have a friend push the brakes while you measure for voltage.

both brake lights operate on the same fuse...a fuse would show a problem in the right brake light as well, and OP has indicated the right side works normally.

I have the same/similar problem. The left hand brake bulb will die every 3 months or so...every time. Fuses are not the issue. I'm about to replace the taillight socket(s) on the left side as I think there may be a loose connection causing the failure.

Don't fear the junkyard, they can be your best friend.

You can message sellers on eBay that are selling used parts from the same type car and ask them.

I got lucky with an eBay seller selling a used 6 speed and got the shifter and cables for cheap, so it's possible.

I wonder if this is something that could be unique to I30s?
