97-99 rear bumper

I am really fond of the ionic dynamics rear valences from the 97-99.

I have a 95 and there's a 98 in the junkyard with a rear bumper that's perfectly fine.

Can I simply just swap the two bumpers without having to do the trunk and lights? I prefer the 95-96 lights and I want to keep my SE spoiler.

Can I just swap bumpers easily?

If you swap bumper covers, you may want to consider swapping the crash bar too. That is, if you're a completist type of person and want the bumper cover to be secured at all points like OEM. The crash bar swap is not mandatory by any means.

Chances are your 4 bumper brackets welded onto the reinforcement bar are rusted away. When I removed my rear bumper last summer all 4 brackets and their bolts crumbled to pieces. After grinding them off the reinforcement bar I welded on new brackets. Here is the OEM PN 85043-40U00.

Why go through all that hassle when you can just get '95-'96 Ionic rears? They look exactly the same but '97-'99 are longer to fit the longer bumper.

i like the look of the 97-99 rears beter. it looks like they hang lower.

You should email Jose and ask if that's true or not. I doubt it.
