Konis + Eibachs
Konis + Eibachs
My original post was longer, but the website ate it, so I'll get right to the point:
Does anyone who has actually installed Konis + Eibachs on their 4G recently have any advice regarding camber adjustment for autocross?
I'm getting ready to install mine and am researching what other parts (if any) I'm going to need to be able to get everything setup correctly.
I've done the research, and all I can find are a wide assortment of camber bolts, which I've read might not be up to the task for autocross. There is one vendor on ebay selling camber plates, but their reviews have not been positive.
Should I just replace them with stock mounts and be done, or is there another reasonably priced solution that will hold up for racing?
What else should I be doing for this type of setup?

You will not have any camber issues with the Eibach drop. Pull as much positive camber as you can while you tighten the lower strut bolts, then have it aligned. You should be within the recommended range.
That's a nice tight set up and will handle and track really well!

Eibach springs are about a 1.1" drop barely noticeable appearance wise....more noticeable driving wise....I'm using Progress Sports Springs (1.75"F/1.5"R) on my 5.5th Gen and chamber bolts aren't even necessary for me!
I have Konis and Eibachs. You can get into factory spec with extra no parts. If you need more adjustment for your setup there are several ways to get it. I would assume you want more negative camber for all the turns in auto cross.
Camber bolts: cheap and easy, but there have been horror stories with them failing. Some have had them break or slip out of alignment.
Camber plates: Stillen made them years back but they are hard to get a set. Due to their rarity they will be pricey, if you can find em. I had a set but they made noise so I went back to stock. Also there was a short run of custom camber caster plates from OEM, but they failed. They tried a few designs, but they were flawed and either bent or broke. If you come across a pair, you may want to think twice.
Last option is to enlarge the top hole on the strut so you can move the hub for more camber. If you do this you can have a washers welded over the enlarged strut hole so it will stay where you wanted it. Basically it does the same thing as camber bolts.

The elongated upper bolt hole is the easiest for sure....as stated above...Camber bolt are extremely small compared to the stock strut to hub bolts especially on a 5th Gen...I personally just removed a set of elongated AGX off my 4th gen DCmax was an Autocross nut....
Thanks for all the good information (confirmation) on my upgrade options!
I think I'll see what the stock/unmodified mounts get me before going further with that.
Although some have modified their Maxima to the extreme for autocross, my goals are a bit more modest.
Last year I ran in stock class with nothing more than a Stillen Exhaust and RSB. This was basically an example of what a Maxima can do "out of the box" and it did surprisingly well compared to the "real" sportscars.
This year, I'm basically doing whatever I can within reason to make the Maxima the car it "should have been" -- still as a street performance sports sedan. So I'm trying to avoid racing-specific mods that don't translate well to the street.
I'll probably give it another year or two autocrossing before I get something more competitive, but I expect that the Eibachs and Konis will make a night/day difference to what it has now (OEM).
