How often to change synthetic?

I have been changing my synthetic, used since 39k (I now have 58k) every 4,000 miles.

From reading othere's posts, I see that maybe I'm overdoing it.

What is a reasonable amount of milage to use as a guideline for synthetic?

And I read the stickie already...I want your opinions.

Thanks!

Most people say around 5,000 miles...or a bit before. Since I use nitrous I have been changing regularly at 2,800 and I use full synth.

At your next 4000 mile change send a sample to Blackstone labs so see how the oil is stressed. They always say mine is stressed but the others have reported their oil in good condition even after 5-6-7000 miles.

Usually at least once a week, mostly weekends...

I used to do it every 3000 miles

Synthetic can run to 6K easy. 5K sounds about right. I switched to a blend and stick to 3000 miles.

I change my synthetic oil every 4.5k miles. I know you can leave it in longer but using Nitrous, i tend to change it earlier then others.

You can get your oil tested for free. There is a oil link i think in the Gen Forums (done up by Shingles & Bill99GXE).
