QUESTION: Pulsating Feel When Braking...

Hello-

I have a 97 Maxima SE. In the last few months, I have noticed a slight pulsating feeling when I am braking to slow down to a stop. This pulsating carries all the way up to the steering wheel and the passenger can feel it as well. At first it was barely perceptible, but now I am noticing it is getting stronger. I have had no loss of braking power though so far as I can tell, nor have I had a loss of brake sensitivity. It seems to be originating from the front driver's side area.

I do not have ABS and a friend of mine says it may be an uneven spot on the disk itself (he said he had the same problem a few times with one of his cars).

It is also about that time that I get new tires (Just roled over 40K on the factory Michellins, but there is still a good amount of tread on the tires) and I was wondering if that could possibly be the culprit although I do not experience the pulsating feeling when accelerating which leads me to believe it is a break rather than tire problem.

Is this something I should have checked ASAP or can it hold until I buy new tires in a few weeks. If anyone has any ideas, or can provide any assistance, it would be greatly appreciated!

How much does something like a new rotar usually run on a Maxima (I know the cost varies greatly based on the car)? I believe it is only occuring on the front driver's side?

25-65 USD each. depends on what brand and where it was manufactured. just make sure the rotor you purchase isnt made in china.

My rotors went out at 78k but it's because the dealership warped them when he turned them. Got a new pair of rotors & pads up front. I love it when dealerships mess up!

Front rotors go out first because most of your braking occurs at the front. If you have a free brake inspection in your area, take it in for the fun of it. Midas has a tendency to tell me I need a $800 brake job .. probably coz they want to make $$$

go to eatricezone.com Phuong will hook you up with a full set for almost half the price of those... these are Stillen X-drilled

or go find a place or something that sells blanks, you should be able to get new disks for under 100 each

Yeah, it looks like you got that really tweaked now, I don't think I'm going to be able to catch you next year. I'm damn well going to try though I still haven't decided what rubber to get, I'm running snows right now, my Honda can out corner them

Thanks! I think I may just get a standard set for right now but then replace them in short order with Stillen cross-drilled ones in the near future. Thanks for the link though. I will probably order them from there when I do decide to get them.

dude, get the 300zx rims, so much better,

i need to get brakes pads though, I'm thinking of getting the maximadriver.com group deal, all of 'em for $118, I already got SS brake lines, so I'll be installing them w/ the pads

need new rubber, narrowed it down to 2 choices, either kumho supra 712 or Yokohama A520, go on tirerack.com they are very very close to each other in terms of price and quality, like 90 bucks each, so when I get little bit more money I'll get 'em, so if you get tires from them, let me know, so we can get 'em together and maybe save on shipping
