Replacing the EVAP canister vent control valve

The check engine light is on in my 1996 Nissan Maxima GXE, and the code says P1447. I did some search on this forum and found two posts that report the same problem and possible fixes. And I also found a video on youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e3owzQ094Fk that shows how to install it, but I am not sure how easy it is to replace it. Before I buy the part, what should I check/locate the problems? Thanks

If that is your problem replacing the valve is pretty easy. I'd take yours off and try and clean it first. I had this code a couple of years back and the plunger inside was hung up. A little cleaning and some WD-40 and she has been good ever since.

Thanks M in KC. I haven't tried very hard to locate the valve, but from my watching of the videos, is the valve located beside the gas tank next to the back tire on the driver side?

If penetrating oil doesn't free it up they aren't too expensive on rockauto and it comes with a new o-ring.

When I tried to replace mine, one bolt was seized and the nut broke loose in the canister. Before buying a new valve try to remove yours. Also, use some oil and forceps/screwdriver to free yours up, there is a good YouTube of this.

Its located on the drivers side rear wheel well on the forward facing side of the wheel well near the bottom. There will be a plastic splash guard in front of it. When you locate it hit it with some panther **** as others have suggested before trying to service it.
