Rpm gage

My rpm gage jumps around for no reason. My engine is not reving that high but the gage will go to like 5k and back down to3k then to1k all in one second. Doesn't matter if my car is parked, if I'm on the highway, nothing. Please help

Gauge, not gage...

Your tach is wack. Swap the tach with another one. Get it from a junkyard so it's cheap.

Or take it apart and look for an electrolytic cap on the tach circuit board itself that looked like it has leaked (common problem on circuit boards). De-solder cap, take it to your nearest electronics store and get a replacement with the same micro farads (uf) and voltage. Re-solder. Done. Problem fixed.
