1996 engine in 1999

Hey guys

So I'm just trying to figure out my swap options and one of them is to get a low km engine and just swap out my engine for this one.

I was wondering if a 1996 engine would work in my 1999 maxima? (yes, I've searched).

I'm 5spd Fed spec and according to the previous owner the vlsd tranny is from a 1997 i30.

What I know is that the emissions are different and the engines are the same. Also the EGR is different.

So what is the procedure for putting in a 1996 in a 1999?

I'm willing to swap ecus btw since I'm also going to be doing that anyways to get rid of NATS.

My 99 SE 5MT has a low miles 95 model in it. I kept the 99 EGR and other stuff.

Here's a picture of the electric 1999 model EGR valve below.

You won't need anything besides that engine from the 96 maxima. You won't need to do any mods to get it to work because the it's the same exact engine as your 99 and its going to bolt right up with the eye system and your ecu. Now if u had an engine from a 2000 Nissan maxima then you would have to do some mods. But in your case nothing needs to be done to get it working.

The engine is exactly the same. You will need to swap over the manifolds and emissions related controls.

thanks everybody, just wanted to double check since there are posts from like 2004 which say its "impossible".

I'm just doing this swap as practice for a 3.5 swap. (Never swapped an engine myself before, so I'm doing this to learn).
