Right front wheel noise. Axle? Wheel bearing?
I figured out the cause of a noise recently but could not find anything posted here that matched the symptoms. I figured I would post info here in case someone else ends up with the same issue.
Symptoms:
Right front wheel noise
Sounds like a cross between a CV click and a baring eating it's self
Makes noise when in gear and above 10mph
Acceleration and deceleration make it worse
Left turns make it worse
Pressing the clutch in makes it go away
Noise almost completely goes away after 10 miles or so of driving
The axle was an oem part that had the CV guts rebuilt.
The wheel bearing and hub were new.
Cause:
Axle mount support bearing was toast. The play couldn't be felt with the axle installed but once pulled, the bearing play could be felt.
It sounds like once the ball bearings heated up and expanded, it picked up the slack.
