Lower Control Arm As Jacking Point?

Guys,

In need to put my car on roller skates so's I can shove it around in the garage.

Problem is, I'm not seeing how to get the front end high enough (wheels/tires and all) to get the skates under the front wheels/ tires.

If I used the lower control arms as my jacking point I'd bend or bust something wouldn't I?

Front of car near engine brace, read the service manual.

Umm ... yeah ... I get that.

I'm quite familiar with the FSM and the "approved" jacking points.

However I'm needing to raise the car either without, or with the ability to eliminate, the resulting stretch in the front suspension.

I do jack up a wheel by putting the jack under the control arm. But I put the jack under the ball joint, which is next to the wheel. I use a piece of 2x4 to spread the force.

But this would probably position the jack too close to allow you to put the skate thing under the tire. I don't know how far back you could position the jack and still not bend the lca.

I'm looking at the photo in the link below posted by asand1. It shows lifting the control arm in 3 different spots is safe. Can jack stands be used in any of these 3 spots as well, or would certain ones bend the control arm? Also is lifting with the floor jack itself safest in one of the 3 spots? thanks

I jack from the LCAs all the time with no problems. Because of the width of my wheels, I cannot lift by the BJ. I just get as close to the tire with the jack as I can.

Keep in mind that this is a suspension point that is built to handle the stresses exposed to it when going through dynamic movements, like at the track. Think about all that weight that gets transferred to and from that area when the car takes a hard corner.

In other words, jacking up your car at the LCA is absolutely no stress compared to the stress that the LCA is built to deal with during its lifetime.
