What brand of shock provides the softest possible ride?

I was looking for new shocks for my 1995 maxima with the goal being an extremely soft if not outright boat like ride, does anyone know my best bet for getting this done?

You didn't specify spring, but assuming OEM ride height. May I ask why?

No.
Yes OEM ride height and I just want a very relaxing and soft ride, I have Bilsteins on my truck and they are a little too intense (you can tell exactly what you are driving on or if there is anything on the road, awesome control though and very responsive) for what I plan to be my daily driver so I was exploring other options.

They are the opposite of the direction I would go in if you want pillowy cushion...lol. Just look up what Cadillac used for suspension on the old deville. Duplicate that.

Another +1 for Monroe. The KYB is a bit stiffer but better than the stock.

You're kidding, right?

This type of question doesn't even deserve a response.

I like to get a good deal on parts as much as anyone else. But when it comes to suspension components, I try to go with a "top shelf" vendor. Here's what can go wrong with a strut.
I'm not saying all low cost struts will fail like the one in this video, but I do try to lower the risk of failure as the cost of an accident can be extreme.

Totally agree!

If you want a Caddy like ride, you could buy a Caddy? Just a thought.

Springs, Tire profile/sidewall and inflation pressure, struts will effect you ride quality.

I'm just over 20k on Sensen and they've been great. They are firm though.

The Monroe Matic, blues strut rides stiff, like crap.
The monroe Sensatrack rides better and gives good control.

The softest caddy like riding strut is the Tokico Blue, hands down.

Tokico looks like a performance shock, you sure that's the softest?

Tokico Blue, also known as Tokico HP. Yes, they are very nice and soft.

Also, stick with the OEM 15" size rim if comfort is your priority.

+1. I run blues on the 99 I30. They have a soft yet controlled ride.
On the 95 SE I used Sensatracks. On the 99 SE I run KYB AGX which give a crisp ride that I doubt you want.

You definitely want to stay away from the AGX's.

Monroe or Gabriel are low pressure shocks but the spring is what makes the ride soft or hard not the strut/shock!

I put Monroe OESpectrums in my L31 and fathers A34. They do not ride like Caddys. I thought they were on the stiff side, but what wouldn't be compared to worn OE stuff.

I put Tokico HP's on my father's A32 so many years ago. I don't remember them being too soft or to firm, so perhaps they were just right.

Not what you are after, but I have Koni's (and Eibach) on my A32. They are light years better than the KYB AGX (and Eibach) I had in the past. The good thing about Koni is the adjustment does not change compression dampening so it never gets stiff feeling like AGX or Illuminas.

I'm aware of this, I plan to use the original springs to soften the ride. Reason picking a shock is giving me pause if the brands available (excluding the high end) are all different ones than I am used to dealing with so I don't know their performance characteristics. I'm primarily a Bilstein fan but in this case I don't need/want that kind of a ride lol!

Well with you being a Bilstien Fan you know they dampening force is usually pretty high...At least the Bilstien yellows I used on my truck for years...If you're looking for a super soft Maxima spring rate...I believe the GLE had the softest spring providing the softest ride...But If you want a Caddy like ride then I suggest you get a Caddy...

The worn out stock struts will give you the softest boat ride. If you want to float around like a 93 Cadillac hoopty, why replace them at all?
