My speedo shows 0mph. A while back it started waving from 0mph to about 20-25mph and a few days later died. Shows 0 since. I took out the cluster and checked the screws in the back and the wiring. All seems to be fine. the car doesn`t stall and shows the ghost KS on the CEL and thats all. It`s a manual 1998 I30. Should i go buy a speed sensor or try something else? Maybe there is some trick for the problem? Thanks for helping.

 

Sounds like the VSS is shot. If the rest of the cluster is working except for the speedo then id def investigate the vss first. Try checking the connection/prongs of the sensor first - give them a good cleaning and check for any looseness and see if that does the trick. If not then go ahead and cop a new sensor, id assume youll want to stick with OEM like pretty much all the other sensors in these cars.
