We recently acquired a '98 Maxima for our daughter. I found out the blower motor is not working at all. I have tried auto, manual and all 4 speeds of the blower motor. It does not blow any air at all. I have checked the fuses and they are good. I assume the blower motor itself needs to be replaced. Does that sound about right and should I replace the blower resistor also?

Check for voltage at the plug for the blower. If you have 12 volts with the switch on, the blower is toast.

I checked both blower fuses and they are good.

My blower motor stopped working a couple years ago. To test it I wired the motor direct to 12v and it worked. Turned out to be fan control amplifer...assuming you have Auto Climate. I found one at the junk yard. Easy replacement after removing glove box.

Try the blower motor resistor first, It's cheap most likely it sounds like that's what your problem is. When you turn the blower motor switch on do you hear a click with the a/c on and running that factor there will determine if your resistor is working or not.

It sounds like you have the auto climate controls. This means that you have a digital screen that shows you a number for the temperature setting. If you do, you probably need the fan control amplifier.

If you have the manual climate control, you do not have a digital display and set the temperature by sliding a lever from side to side. If you have this, then you probably need a blower motor resistor.

A fan control amplifier and a blower motor resistor are not the same thing and they are not interchangeable.

It would probably be a good idea to test the blower motor first before buying anything.

I do have auto climate control. I hope to test the blower motor in the next day or two. I appreciate the help so far.

test it by smacking the blower motor, hard. if it comes on, that's your problem, I'm not sure if you can open the maxima one, but on my old Benz, you could open the case and manually spin it to get it started, once it starts spinning on it's own, apply a healthy dose of wd40 to the moving parts, should buy you a few months before it goes out again
