I've only had it about 6 months. I bought the Platinum or Premium, whichever it was. The kind which covers RV's. I don't have an RV, but that level get's you longer tow distances.

I've had a vehicle towed once, and one door unlocked.

A friend of mine got me hooked on AAA. He has used it to get a free replacement battery, and a few tows. One particular tow... it was a Dodge Cummins diesel truck pulling a trailer with another vehicle on the trailer.

He explained to the AAA operator over the phone what he had going on... so they sent a roll back wrecker. Picked the disabled Dodge up on the rollback, then backed up to the trailer and hooked it to the tow truck's bumper hitch... and brought everything back to town here.... about 70 miles! Hard to imagine what something like that would have cost out of pocket.

AAA will even cover a locksmith coming to your house and unlocking your door if you lock yourself out of the house.

Not sure which level of service you have to pay for... but the one I'm on will allow one replacement battery per year, and I'm about due.

I have had it before. I never used it. It doesn't make financial sense for my situation.

I've had AAA premier now for over 20 yrs. I use it primarily to tow my classic car if needed to the shop. I last used it in August to tow my co-worker's car from her house to one of my trusted mechanics. I'm due to renew it in Dec, and at $120 per year for a family plan is cheap insurance IMO since it covers any vehicle you're driving or in. My vehicles are pretty reliable, but my nieces and nephews' vehicles are another story.

LOL

I've been thinking of signing up for BCAA (here in BC) but I haven't gotten around to seeing what they offer for how much. I hear towing is very pricey if you don't have it covered. I hope most services understand the issues with rusty radiator supports on old vehicles and take appropriate precautions.

This is one service where a subscription fee seems justified, unlike: https://www.newsweek.com/mercedes-su...rmance-1761438

When I get my 69 Cougar towed, I make sure that I ask them to send a flatbed truck, no dolley's and no slings.
They sent a sling load truck the last time because it was in my area, I told the driver it wasn't gonna happen.
He tried to convince me otherwise, but I stuck to my guns and told them to send what I asked for.
Twenty minutes later the flatbed truck arrived and took my car, the driver of the flatbed was the tow company owner, he said that the dolley would have worked just as well.
I told him I only get my Cougar towed by flatbed truck end of story.

I've had the 100 mile coverage AAA for probably 20 years. My old i30 as well as my other cars have ended up needing piggy back rides from time to time. Most recently I was driving from San Diego to Philly and I realized my alternator went at about 100 miles in. Conveniently enough I was able to get it towed back for free, replace the alt and start over again. FWIW they rarely check ID or that you own the car being towed. They also allow you to have cars towed without you even being there as long as they have access to the car and key.
