I was wondering if there are any intakes that are relatively unnoticeable under normal driving, but start making a lot of noise around 3-4K and/or WOT? Or is that just not possible with an intake? I don't want the car to be loud all the time.

 

I dont know about a regular pop-charger but my PR-CAI is hella quiet unless you tap into the power band...right past 4 it sort-of clicks on its worth the money and low end torque gains are awsome!!

 

Most intakes are like that, they're quiet under normal driving conditions, and get slightly loud under hard accel. or WOT

 

My POP charger gets loud if you're past 3k rpm and are mashing the gas... I don't think the sounds of a CAI and a POP are the same, but they both get loud under the same conditions...

See from all these people if you pretty much go either way until you hit it harder you wont really hear all that much. Just stay away from aftermarket mufflers if your newvous about noise.
