Found! '98 SE 5-speed...What do ya'll think?

Hey guys,

Lately, I've really had the urge for a 5-speed Maxima, so I've been searching on the net for one for a while now. I found a '98 Maxima SE 5-speed w/ 27.5K miles. It has all the options that I have now (Leather, Heated Seats, ABS, etc.). In fact, it's even the same color that I have now. It's about an hour drive from me, so I'm probably not gonna get a chance to look at it until Saturday. They're asking $15,999. I haven't had a chance to look the price up, but what do you guys think? They didn't post a picture online or anything, but I e-mailed them asking for one. I really would like to check it out. Maybe I'll be driving a 5-speed soon!

I'll keep you all posted.

Try to talk them down just a bit. If you can pick it up for maybe 15.5 or less then it is a pretty good deal.

hmm

that is a BIT steep..... For that $, you can buy a 2000 Max now a days! I would talk them down to like 14-15k.. still think that's a bit on the high end. But it's up to you.. see if they want to trade straight up

I was hoping to talk them down to $14K, but I dunno. Maybe I'll try the, "Oh, I didn't know it was a stick" approach!

Wonder how much the difference will be if I trade my car in.

The guy is sending me pictures by the end of the week. I'm probably going to go check it out on Saturday (if they still have it).

Geez, you must be dying for a 5-speed. Never pay what they're asking unless you really want the car and can't live another minute without it. There should be plenty of room to negotiate. Someone else on the board talked a dealer down to $10.5 for a 99 with high mileage. This is a buyer's market now, show them no mercy

Maybe I could get them into the high $13K's. That would be really nice. I was never even thinking about paying $16K...I was basically asking what I should pay when I posted this thread.

Thanks for everyone's help. I hope they still have it on Saturday so I can drive to check it out. Do you think I'll look stupid driving up in a Maxima and potentially buying a Maxima? I could say something like, "It's my friends and I was driving it to see if I like it" or something like that.

I'm right now because I found this car. Hope this goes through. I gotta see the car first before I get to excited.

If you show up in an auto max, you won't be able to use the "hmm, it's a 5-speed" comment

These numbers are for a clean 98 SE in MA off Edmund's:

Trade= $12,065 Private Party Retail= $13,583 Dealer=$15,383
