bad things are happening please help!

Ok stuff isnt going right. I have a 99 max with 37,240 miles and i changed my stock tires and put 17"in rims after 10,000 miles. Well now my tires have cupping and i went to different places and they all told me it was the struts that caused this. Now all my tires are messed up and i need to replace the struts too. Do you guys think that maybe i could go to nissan and ask them to cover this or something. I take really good care of my car and never push it why in the world would my struts go bad? Can i put on my stock tires and go to nissan so they dont tell me it was the 17's that caused this? The place i went to told me it would be 150 for the front struts 140 for the rear shocks and 110 for labor? please help.

I had a terrible time with my tires cupping. I'm hoping that when I replace my struts soon that it will fix the situation. I was told to try to run a lower pressure on your tire and rotate every 5k miles. Someone told me that if your offset is too great it magnifies the angles that your alignment is at and thats a contributing factor to the cupping

What is "cupping"?

Several used the term "cupping." Can someone describe the condition and explain why it is bad for the car or for performance?

Thanks.

cupping is when your tires get like bumps all over the place on the tread and it is no longer even. Your tires become really loud too and you have to replace them when this happens.

If your car has 37K on it I can't see the struts being bad. Cupping or feathering is usually caused by inacurate tire press and/or alignment being out. I've never heard of struts causeing this. Lexus was having a problem with this on there factory 17s and we found that rotating the tires every 5k, and making sure that tire press and alignment were good solved the problems. By the way, are you tires cupping on one edge (inner/outer) or the whole surface of the tire?

Re: bad things are happening please help!

You need a wheel alignment to adjust the camber etc on your wheels, especally the fronts, that's all. Happened to me too when I put 17s on my stock SE suspension. When I upgraded to H&Rs and Toks, the 1.3-1.4" lower ride height eliminated the need for adjustment even with my 17s.

Get a camber kit if you plan on keeping that setup for a while.
